Kinesio Taping is showing winning form this year

A FITNESS products firm which has worked with every Premier League football club in the country is set to pass the £1m annual sales mark this year after breaking into the South African and Indian markets and rolling out its items across 800 Boots stores.

Since its inception in 2005, Newcastle-based Kinesio Taping has enjoyed a minimum of 40% annual sales growth every year on the back of surging demand for its specialist tape, which is used by sports people and medical professionals who believe it can alleviate injuries and improve performance.

The concept was designed in Japan but was brought to the UK by the Tyneside firm and has gone on to be endorsed by the likes of David Beckham and Wales and Spurs footballer Gareth Bale.

Until recently Kinesio Taping was restricted to selling the product in the UK and Ireland.

However, after witnessing strong growth in these markets, the product’s creator, Dr Kenzo Kase, granted the North East business the rights to break into the South African and Indian territories.

Having established a foothold in both markets, the firm now sells 10% of its products to South Africa and is also currently working with South African police authorities to help stamp out a rising tide of counterfeit fitness products entering the country from Asia.
